Process of Geo-Rectifying an Aerial Image
Georectification of an aerial image can be challenging if projection information is missing in the image file. The software will input the image in the pixel coordinate system while loading the image. This can only happen if projection information is not available.
The software will not permit the assignment of a CRS with the loaded image. Therefore, defined spatial information is needed for the image file. The process of georeferencing an aerial image is described below.
- The first step is to load a base map into the Map view.
- They assign the appropriate CRS to the site of the project.
- Zoom into the location of the aerial image.
- Go to Map Data Layers then drag and drop the aerial image layer to the potential location of the image.
- The image will be placed on the top of the base map and the correct CRS will be assigned to the image file.
- Resize the image and select the layer. Then use a landmark for both images and drag the image for a better location.
- Display the image file’s Properties dialog box and change the image’s transparency. It will help viewers to see through the image.
